Filming/Editing Schedule

 Hello everybody, today I will be creating a rough idea for the editing and filming schedule for my film opening. 

I plan to film the entire opening during the span of my week long vacation to Colorado with my family. This will start the March 18th which is the day I land in Denver. During that week, I will be filming parts of my opening every day until I feel I have enough material to edit my opening. 

My editing schedule will start as soon as my vacation is over, we come back on March 26th, so I will start on the 27th, although I will start to choose the music and other items before leaving. 

I plan on using ADOBE to put all the clips together and edit them with the music and the sound, they have many options and I am in the process of figuring out which one I will use and if I can get for free with my student status or I need to buy it. 

Script develpoment

 Hello again. I am here to work on my scrip.

My plan is to document the journey from start to finish, I am thinking that I should start with a shot in the plane leaving Miami. It is certainly a long process from home to when I am actually in my snowboard having fun so I think it will be cool to show all of that in very quick shots. 

In my previous post I planned my shots and I have come up with new ones since then, like me renting the equipment which we always do the first day and a quick shot of downtown Denver in which I will stay for a night before heading to the mountains.

Since we are going with friends and family, it is a big group so I can add them to my opening in some shots, I think that will add value to it, although I will be the main character. 

As you can see this is one of my passions and I have done it several times so I am pretty sure I can come up with a lot of ideas before we live. I know my biggest challenge will be doing the opening in 2 minutes.

Shot list

  Hello everyone!, Today I will be presenting the shot list I planned to use in my opening:

 - Establishing shot,  to showcase the landscape of Colorado, I am thinking some views from the drive from Denver to Vail and the mountains when I get there and the entrance of my hotel.

- Following shot,  a shot of the camera following me while I snowboard, I will also try another shot from someone in front of me, waiting in the bottom of the mountain to shot another angle. I will like to include my friends in this shots, I think it will be more cool to feature other snowboarders than only me. 

- Standstill shot, to capture me getting on and off the ski lift, and adjusting the board before leaving the top of the mountain. 

- Close up shot, to show my equipment while I get ready and include the view from my window which is always spectacular. 

- Panning shot, To show angles of the scenery to large to fit in one frame

I am still working on the right track of the shots but I am exited and I can already see the opening in my mind. 

Components and equipment

 Hello and good afternoon to everyone reading this! I am exited! in about 3 weeks I will be leaving for Vail, Colorado. I am ready to film and I have gathered my equipment that I think will be necessary for filming the best opening possible. Here is a list of everything I will need and also what I am missing:

 Have: 

- iPhone13

-GoPro

-Canon Camera

-Snowboard rental (board/boots)

-Snowboarding equipment (gloves, goggles, helmet, jacket, etc...)

-GoPro mount

-Friends 

-Ski lift ticket

Need:

- Camera gimble (not sure)

-Laptop to upload (will be borrowed from my parents)

-Waterproof case for iPhone 

-Selfie stick for iPhone to film 

-Map of Vail Mountain to pick spots out to film

Research & Planning

 Hello everyone! I am writing today on the plan I have set for my project. 

Since my family is going on a vacation during spring break to Vail, Colorado, this is a perfect opportunity to film a great opening while at the same time enjoying my vacation. I will have my parents to film me and my friends to be my side characters and while I still have to plan out the framework of the actual opening and what we are going to film, I have very high hopes. 

During the span of the trip we will be filming different shots throughout the day as I mention before, I will like to show the process of doing snowboarding from start to finish, from the moment you wake up and prepare your outfit and equipment, to the moment to go down the hill feeling that wonderful rush and sense of adventure. There are many steps in between, a lot of things I will like to show, actually my main challenge will be how to keep the footage under 2 minutes with all the ideas going thru my head. 

As you can see, this sport is my passion and I cannot wait to start my spring break vacation in Vail and on top of that be able to show it in a video. It is going to be great! 

Technical equipment

 Hello everyone. Today I will be writing about my technical aspects of my project. 

The main thing to keep in mind here is that I will be going to Colorado and the opening will be filmed in the snow. This means that the equipment needs to be waterproof and shockproof as well, because I otherwise I could easily lose all my footage. The equipment so far I have in possession are: 

- iPhone 13 (which is waterproof)

- GoPro

- Waterproof handheld camera

- Professional camera (not waterproof mainly for standstill shots)

While I am thinking of obtaining more professional equipment for filming my opening like a gimble for example, This is what I have so far and I am confident in my ability to film the opening if I do not get access to more high end equipment.

Character List

 Hello and Good morning to everyone. Today I will be providing information and insight on the character list that I have come up with. I have contacted everyone on this list and it is all people who will be going to Vail, Colorado at the same time as me and will be snowboarding at the same mountain as me,  making it easy to set up a day to film. They have all agreed on filming with me and are more than happy to participate.

Here is the list so far:

These are just some of the people I have contacted to participate in the opening and hopefully, in the future, the list will grow.

Project components

 Hello everyone! I'm back to give an update on my research. I have set out a few ideas for my characters and plot for my opening. I have my genre set on sports adventure film. I really like these films and I would personally love to create one.

I will be the main character, and I have contacted a few of my friends that will be traveling with me for side characters or extras. I have a brief idea for the plot but it is not completely finish yet. One of the ideas I have in mind is for the main character to be a professional snowboarder who is racing at a competition in Vail, Colorado for a championship. Although this is not my set plot and I do have others in mind, this is the one I am leaning towards.

I will keep researching this subject and come up with a final plot before leaving for my trip. I am excited!

First post!

 Hello! My name is Kenneth Mathison and this is my first blog post. 

I have decided on my genre for the film, it is going to be a sports adventure film in snowboarding which is one of my favorite things to do. 

It happens to be that I am traveling to the mountains of Colorado very soon with my family and it is the perfect opportunity to film my opening. Also, I have seen many cool and innovating films on these subject already so this gives me a good base to start off. Snowboarding is not easy and required planification, equipment and skills, which I also plan to show on my film.
